Message from President Apgar

Brothers, sisters, and members of the community,

Welcome to the new Greenbelt Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #32 website. We intend to update the website frequently to keep all of you up to date with lodge events, news, and other important information. Please feel free to take a look around the site, and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

The Greenbelt Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #32 was founded in January 1974 by the officers of the Greenbelt Police Department, to assist them in addressing issues affecting them, such as pay, benefits and working conditions. Over the years, the lodge has done just that.

Today, our lodge has over 70 active members, both current and retired officers, and the support of over 30 associate members. We have successfully negotiated, ratified and adopted our second Collective Bargaining Agreement on July 1, 2010. I am grateful for all the hard work that was put into the contract by the collective bargaining committee, which spent over 150 hours researching, drafting, proposing and negotiating the contract to get the best Collective Bargaining Agreement we could, given these hard financial times.

Our Lodge participates in a number of community programs, such as our Holiday Shopping Drive, where kids in the community can shop with a member from our lodge for the Christmas holidays.

Our Associate Members are made up of both past and present members of the Greenbelt community who support the active members of the Lodge and the jobs they do.  Our Associate Membership was instrumental in achieving our goal of obtaining collective bargaining several years ago, by attending meetings and rallying support for the Lodge. Without their support, our jobs would be a lot harder.

The Greenbelt Fraternal Order of Police is a family. Often times spending nights, weekends, holidays and even our birthdays away from families at home, we are a part of a family of over 330,000 brothers and sisters of the Fraternal Order of Police all over the world, both retired and active, who have dedicated their lives to serving and protecting the communities they work, or have worked in.

I thank you for your interest in the Greenbelt Fraternal Order of Police, invite you to join our Associate Membership, and become a part of our Greenbelt family.

Fraternally,

Mike Apgar
